•형용사라는 언어의 한계와 무한한 색상 사이의 틈에 대한 인식에서 출발했다.
•형용사로 만든 색채의 명도와 채도를 물을 이용해 조절함으로써 우연이 색의 본질을 변화시킬 수 있도록 의도 했다.
•캔버스 위에서 펼쳐지는 사건은 나의 감정이 담긴 색의 자유로운 흐름과 우연의 상호작용 속에서 내가 인식한 세계에 대한 재해석이다.
•감각세계와 정신세계의 이분법적 구조가 아닌, 현 시대성을 반영하는 감각-의미라는 보다 넓은 해석(인간의 신체적 오감과 함께 언어, 사고, 자아, 사회적 감각 등)에 기반한다.

누군가 나의 작업을 살짝 숨겨둔 의도

누군가 나의 작업을 살짝 숨겨둔 의도대로 감상하고 맞닿은 현실에 적용하는 글을 접한다는 것은 오랜만에 경험하는 긴장감이다. 특히 미술가의 사회적 참여가 회화의 내용과 형식에 어떻게 표현될 수 있을까를 항상 고민하는 나로서는 파스칼님의 해석이 큰 위안이 된다. 형용사로서의 색채로 작업한 지 12년 만이다. 의연하게 계속 할 수 있겠다.

지난 2주간 몇 년만에 좀 아팠습니다. 그런데 전시 마지막 날이 되었네요.
갤러리까지 2시간 동안 운전할 상태가 아니어서 먼 곳에서 일부러 찾아주시는 관람객을 만나지 못한 미안한 마음을 전합니다.

그동안 천착해 온 “형용사로서의 색채” 작업에 내용, 형식적인 모든 면에서 다시 한번 숙고해 본 전시였습니다. 앞으로 작업에 어떤 변화가 계속될 지는 아마도 제가 인식하는 세계의 변화에 상응하게 될 것 같습니다.

축하해주신 모든 분들께 감사드립니다!

전시는 오늘 오후 5시까지입니다.
이후 철수가 진행됩니다.
함께 하지 못하지만 마음은 이미 서울역에 가 있습니다.

매해 다른 크기의 평면을 하얀 망각 혹은 검은 침묵으로 설정한다. 일년동안 조색한 형용사로서의 색채가 감각적 수평선으로 마치 하나의 사건처럼 색의 스펙트럼을 이루도록 구성한다. 이 작업은 지난 1년을 기록하고 회상하는 시리즈 작업이다.

(마음의) 상태변화/ Emotional Color Change

미래주의 운동 당시 분주한 기차역에서 겪은 복잡한 감정을 묘사한 움베르토 보치오니(Umberto Boccioni)의 마음의 상태 시리즈(State of Mind Series)에서 영감을 받은 이 작업은 압도적인 감정의 격동 속에서 평온함을 찾기 위한 시도이다. 두세 가지 색이 캔버스 끝에서 시작하여 서로 섞이면서 또 다른 색으로 변화하는 과정을 5mm 최소 색면으로 시작하여 1mm씩 점증하는 수평의 색면으로 구성된다. 내가 명명한 색의 이름은 캔버스 옆면에 아크릴 펜으로 적었다. 수평적 색면의 의도적인 배치와 하나의 감정에서 다른 감정으로의 점진적인 진행을 통해 나는 마음 상태가 변화하는 미묘한 과정을 색으로 보여주고자 한다. 이 시리즈는 아직 형용사로 명명되지 않은 감정의 색면이 그림 전체를 아우르는 감정의 풍경화이다.

Kyong Lee's series combines colour and language to visually represent the external environment. The process involves mixing two or three colors on the canvas, starting from one end and gradually transitioning into a different color through horizontal color fields. These fields start at a minimum size of 5 mm and incrementally increase by 1 mm. Lee personally handwrote the names of the colors on the side of the canvas.

Inspired by Umberto Boccioni's States of Mind Series, which portrays the intricate emotions experienced in a bustling train station during the futurist movement, Kyong Lee's work strives to instill a sense of tranquility amid the overwhelming tumult of emotions. Through the deliberate arrangement of horizontal color fields and the gradual progression from one emotion to another, Lee seeks to illustrate the organic process of changing one's state of mind. @ideelart

This work, part of a series titled The Sensory World-Part Series, is based on a broad interpretation of sense-meaning, reflecting the nature of the present, including human physical senses, language, thought, ego, and social sense. It does not view the sensory and mental worlds as separate but interconnected.
The Sensory World-Part Series depicts a minor world within the larger universe, capturing events occurring in specific parts. The sensory composition series acts like a papyrus, recording these events.
The artist uses a grid-based composition for these works, similar to the manuscript paper used by Korean writers in the past. This structure helps to create a sense of order and coherence within the sensory world's chaotic and often unpredictable nature.

평면 위에 형용사로서의 색채를 사용하여 매일의 경험과 감정을 시간과 함께 기록하는 작업이다. 반복되는 일상 속에서도 어제와 다른 오늘의 또 다른 감성을 관찰하고 정제하여 수평으로 축적해 나간다. 이렇게 선택된 언어와 반복되는 색면을 통해 나는 평면 위에 의미 있는 질서를 이루게 함으로써 과거의 시간이 하나의 지층처럼 표현되는 개인사의 한 페이지를 그리고 있다.
